so im driving my car finally, still single barrel, still stock, so im driving, at times i have to nearly floor it to pick up a MPH or 2... then out of the blue... BOOM it catches up and starts to accelerate faster... so then i have to release to compensate... now its not like a dragster accelerate but its like a "okay okay yay 44... 45.46.4748 woah woah woah!" now my theory is timing... still... i just want to make sure im on the right path... |

Are you sure its not just your kickdown engaging? When you're accelerating at 40mph or so and slam the gas, the car wont pick up a whole lot of speed until the kickdown engages and downshifts. Then it'll go into 2nd and pick up speed until it shifts back up to 3rd. It's like a passing gear. |

Pull the shifter down to second and floor it to test, that theory sounds plausable provided the car runs normal at slower speeds like in 1st gear and what not. Kev |

Is the accelerator pump in the cab working correctly? How about the vacuum advance on the distributor, is that holding vacuum and connected to a "reliable" ported vacuum source? (is it connected directly to the carb?) DD |

With the engine off and the air cleaner removed, have someone press the accelerator smoothly but quickly to the floor, starting at about 1/4 pedal. Does the carb throw a good stream of gas into the manifold? That's the test for the accelerator pump... |
