Post subject: | Intermittent Temp Gauge |
Most of the time it does not work until I've driven the car for a bit. I'll drive it, make a stop and then it registers after I restart. Or...it will just start working after I've driven for a bit. The other day I "tapped" the dash panel with my finger and it came up to temp, but I have been unable to make that happen again. I've checked the connection at the sending unit...cleaned the terminal and repositioned the spade type wire connector to no avail. Does the problem lie behind the dash?? Any ideas? |

Yup, the problem is probably behind the dash or, you hope, in the gauge itself. If it's wiring, you are in for a lot of fun (not); the '60-'61 cars don't use a printed circuit board for the instruments. It's wires all the way forward and all the way back. Also there is no circuit protection to speak of in these cars; one false connection or short to ground and…break out the marshmallows and weiners on sticks; there's gonna be a fire. Does the fuel gauge work properly? |

Thanks Dan Fuel gauge works great except it drops too fast. I attribute that to my being unable to keep a light foot on the gas pedal. I hear it is a common problem when folks put a 2 barrel in place of a one barrel Quote: Yup, the problem is probably behind the dash or, you hope, in the gauge itself. That's what I was afraid of. Fortunately it is not my daily driver but I realize there is no schedule I can look at that predicts disasters Thanks again |
