Does any one has a clue if it would be possible to modify a 904 from 1968 to fit an older crank from 1964 ? I guess the idea would be to take the front oilpump and front clutch house/input shaft from the 1964 tranny and put it in the 1968 tranny so the 18 spline converter would fit to the tranny.

(Yes I could find a 1968+ crank and put in the engine, but it is an almost new crank in the engine already)

The answer is yes you can, if you have a transmission that does not fit the engine you can swap the oilpump/front clucthpack/rear clutchpack from a 60-67 tranny and put it in a 68-> tranny or the other way around.

There are adapter rings to use older trannys in modern engines and it can be done the other way around but it does require some work so this might be solution for some.

The front input shaft is the part that needs to change. (3/4 dia x 18 spline)
Many just swap the entire shaft / drum assembly to accomplish this.
A 1966 - 67 904 trans is basically this combo of parts.
