My distributor recurve test, using different settings for the adjustable spring perches, will have to wait a little.
When installing the overhauled and modified distributor, I discovered quite a big slack in the timing chain, and the timing mark was also moving around a bit at idle. I could turn the crank by hand back and forth about 7-8 degrees measured on the timing tab, before the distributor moved.
So, time for a replacement chain.
I got a new group buy roller chain kit from CharrlieS that I intended to use in my project engine, but I have also had a new Wolverine timing chain kit laying around for years. It does not have a roller chain, but a multi-plate chain, the part number is TC495S. Both sprockets are steel.
I find part number TC495 for SL6 and old 350/early 383 V8s in an old Egge catalog, but does anyone know if the TC495S is for the SL6 too? My guess it is just an S for steel sprockets, compared to the stock chain, but does anyone know for certain? If anyone is familiar with this chain, is this an OK chain to use, and how should the marks line up with this kit? My engine is a '77 super six.
