First off, I've lurked on and off here for years, I have a 79 volare wagon with a super six, it developed a miss, I found a broken pushrod, I went to drop it in, and it falls way down...I'm assuming the lifter jumped out of its bore....so I come from the great state of a slant 6 god (Nebraska). I called Mike and he said it can be done without removing the head, but for him, the easy way is to pull the head.....he thought you folks here might have some tips for doing it without....I'm open to suggestions, I really don't want to pull this head.....

I just pull the head. Peanuts being a bit restrictive for being able to move things around..

I think somebody here did a coat hangar wire coax to get a lifter back where it belonged.

Maybe one of those telescopic magnet-pen things would work?

That was me. I pulled on one of the push rods a little too fast and it pulled the lifter out of its bore. I also have a peanut head, and was able to use two lengths of a #6 copper electrical grounding conductor that was kicking around, as it is just a little smaller diameter than the push rod. I was able to bend a little angle near its end, insert the copper conductor into the lifter’s top side, and work it back into its hole in about 30 seconds with the aide of a small LED light on the end of a long thin flexible shaft.

Luck most likely played a large roll in the success of this procedure.
