Post subject:  Engine Identificaton
The airport has a military surplus tug using an slant 6. It would help with maintenance if we knew what engine we have. The documentation that we have on the tug provides no information on the engine. It was originally an electronic ignition model so must be 73 or later. The block casting numbers are 2806830-2; 03098T; AAWJ. The serial number is PT225R24410441.

The carb. says Carter on one side and Ball & Ball on the other side. NAPA says that it is a BBS which seems to be inconsistent with the electronic ignition. A table that I found says this carb wasn't used on cars after 71.

Is this enough info to identify this engine or do I need to look for more?

If this is the number stamped above the fuel pump ( PT225R24410441 ) it is a 225.

Thanks for the quick response. It is stamped forward on the top of the block on a ledge sticking out from under the spark plug side of the head immediately above the coil and above and forward of the fuel pump. Remember, this is not a car, it is a custom vehicle so things may not be mounted in the usual location (not that I'm familiar with the usual locations). The alternator, for example is on the manifold side low down instead of high on the spark plug side.

Looks like it's the 441st passenger-car 225 engine built at Trenton Engine Plant on April 3, 1968.
