Post subject: | Supercharger vs Turbo |
hi all, i am new to the forum and I recently bought my wife a 69 barracuda convertible with a 225 slant six... auto trans... which is best to giver her some more around town power as a daily driver... supercharger or turbo???? and why? it gets used on the highway too, but mostly within 10 miles of home... instant power when pulling out of traffic, reliability and gas mileage are important... we are located in south Florida thank you in advance for your helpful advice... |

By my understanding a turbo only helps once the engine revs up while a superchargers help is available off the line. I've never worked with either, so I don't know, this is just what I've read. If I'm right a supercharger would be the better of those two in town. You might try just rebuilding the engine with higher compression, fuel injection, and a hotter ignition |

How much of a consideration, is cost? How much fabrication experiance do you have? A turbo will work around town, if it is sized correctly, and does not require a lot of precision fab work. A supercharger will require a lot of machine shop work, which can get quite costly if you can not do it yourself. A belt drive systen and mounting will need to be made, and alignment is critical |

well, i have no experience...other than reading about both systems...and i am having someone build me a SC 440 right now... with a procharger system from the supercharger store....i would find someone in my area to do this for me...i just know that the 225 by itself is too slow...and i can't change the rear gears because i am already ay 3k rpm on the hwy w/ 276 rear gears... cost is not as important as useful driveability for my wife's application, reliability and gas mileage... In that case, I would consider the Supercharger Store. As far as I know they have a slant six kit.PS: If this project is somewhere down the road, I could do the job (after I finish some projets I am already committed to) |
