Post subject:  A body - Truck headers?

I got these really nice headers and the intermediate pipes at Carlisle. I would like to know if anyone has ever tried A-body headers into a Truck? They look to be Hookers. Part # stamped on them is either 7 109 or 601 L. I think the smaller number at the right is a 6?

I may try these on my 85 Dodge truck with and auto, but thought maybe someone had already tried it.

Thanks,

Rick

Ive read truck headers are tad longer..
someone had a set of truck headers on eBay say 1-2 months ago .
they stated will not work on a car as they are longer...
if that is true you should be able to trade for the ones you need.
take care.

They look like they could work to me, but looks can be very decieiving. I think the area of interference would be the front header hitting the truck cross-member. The rear looks like it may work. There is plenty of room to go down through. It is just if the pipes are in the right place.

Well, being alive makes it easier to do many things on this plane of existence, but we all no that nobody has a life until they install headers on their slant.

Sorry, I couldn't resist being a smart-ass. If the headers clear an A-body, the only thing I could think the headers might interfere with on a truck would be the shift linkage at the front of the transmission.

I have a set of truck headers that I'll bring to Elk Creek. Flyin' Brian M has first dibs, but you are next in line if you want them. A trade could be possible too...

Lou,

Are yours 3 into 1's? Or 6 into one's? Are they full length or shorties? Do you happen to have a picture? I may be interested.

Reed,
Thanks for the input. I hate to dismantle my truck only to find they won't fit. I was hoping someone actually knew. You know Meril Bruner may know. I might have to give him a call.

Post subject:  Not yet

Jon,

I have not tried to install them yet, and probably will not until the fall sometime.

I have installed some headers though. Ryan's 72 swinger has the Mopar 6 into one, and they are not a problem at all to install. And his car is a 4-speed. With your car being an automatic and your headers being 2 piece they should not be that hard to install.

I have Clifford long tubes for my 65 Valiant and they are a piece of cake also.

I did just think of something though. With 3 trucks in the driveway and all the swapping of parts we are doing, I may end up with Ryan's truck with the intake and exhaust off before the Elk Creek Race. If I do I can check my headers on it.

I will keep you all posted.

Not that I know of. He is on Moparts looking for a set. Bobby is his name. I bought 2 sets of headers off him back in 2002-03. He lives in Lexington. He has an ad here looking or missed out on the set in the FS section.

Racinkain is his nic.

the truck base pan is the problem, your going to need a notch in the pan to clear the inside pipe. you don`t need a lift to install these. 8)
