Anyone know what I can use to mount a radio under the dash? |

Google is your friend. Is there a problem with the normal radio slot? FWIW, I have the original radio in its home, and a more modern version in the glovebox. |

There's nothing wrong with the hole. It's just that I want to keep the original in its place, but I also want the space in the glove box. |

Sounds like a plan! I once had a Vega Kammback (Laugh if you like - mine served me well.) with a stack of electronics. AM/FM/8-track in the factory slot, underdash cassette below the radio, and a 40-channel CB in the cavity above. I felt I had the spectrum pretty well covered. |

The thing is that the car is a '69 Dart and the dash has no floor, so to speak. Making holes in the dash is not an option either. |

Holly s#!t! You need to put a floor in that thing before you worry about aftermarket sound  Seriously though, it sounds like you want to keep everything so that you can easily switch it back to stock right? There are many options. Vintage car audio will take your stock stereo and add modern guts to make it look stock but sound great. That is the most expensive route. I found a two post stereo that fit in the original slot that had an amp pre out. I have the stock stereo in a box in case I ever want to restore the vehicle. Another option is what you were originally considering, an under dash mount. Some guys make their own out of wood or metal, depending on fabrication skills and desired look. Some guys buy ones like you find in the google link. No matter what, you're going to have to secure it to something which means either drilling into the floor, the dash, or possibly the firewall if you get really creative. I personally wouldn't stress about drilling a couple of small, well placed holes under the dash. The can always be filled and repainted if you are truly going to turn it into a show car. Easiest thing I've done is a sheet of aluminium 2" wide, and I've just bent it in four places so from front on it looks like _ _ |__| Very easy to do, you could modify it in such a way to make it so that it attaches to what I call redundant parts of the dash that you can't see, or metal parts that improve the rigidity of the dash. My next plan is to have something similar but for it to be retractable (I have an Abody) so that the head unit will go under the dash and when I push on it it'll be visible etc. Thanks |

You can also take any flat piece of metal and bend it into a |___| -shape. Drill a hole on either side to mount the cd player. Drill holes on top to mount to dash or if you don't want to drill holes in the dash you can use C-clamps to clamp the mount to the underside edge of the dash. I am certain this would work!

Okay guys, make it way more difficult than it needs to be!!  Amazon.com sells a plastic underdash mount with holes for the radio and wiring for about $15. I used one in my last Valiant sedan and I'll use one in my current Valiant coupe. They work great! Next, Custom AutoSound sells a pair of kick panels with speaker mounts molded in, those run $120 or so for the pair with speakers. Something else I plan on adding after I finish more pressing projects. Naturally, a pair of good 6x9 in the package tray finish off the stereo project. Eventually I'll add a box, amp and subwoofers because I love my music! Party on Wayne! Party on Garth!! |

I installed a black plastic under the dash kit in my 68 valiant and i really like how it turned out. Got mine at the local best buy. |

Check out SECRET AUDIO . They have a system to mount under the passenger seat, glove box, etc. with wired/wirelss controls (even a CD changer for the trunk if you want it). My son has been enjoying his for about five years in his Dart Sport. The price isn't too bad, either. And, if I may be so bold... you might consider THIS for a solution to where you can put your new dash speakers, without modifying or replacing the door panels or kick panels. Works great in the Dart Sport and Duster we are building. |
