OK
got a nice set of Hooker Headers off The Hard Way, that his dad raced in 1975...

1:should they be repainted Hooker white? or ???

2: exhaust system suitable for HP and sound in a neighborhood..as in not to loud..

3: intake gasket/Headers gasket...whats the good brandhere ?

i'm looking to get the flow but keep it reasonable for those 2AM runs..races..HA!

Are you sure those are hooker headers? They look exactly like the old cliffords I had on the 67.

Anyway,my setup went like this. I brought the two collectors into a custom Y pipe that joined after about 24-28 inches after the collectors,I used 2.5"pipe off the collectors,to the Y and then to the muffler, and ran a 2 1/4 tailpipe. I had used a 40's series Blowmaster, which sounded OK. I think if I were to do it again,I would have gone with a turbo style muffler. I always got compliments on the sound, but was never really sold on the flowmaster.

In my/my exhaust mans opinion, this was an optimal set up for the slant. You would not believe the power and mileage increase I got. GOBS of low end torque even though the motor was stock, with the stock 1920,and the pipes were rather big. Picked up some top end and gained at least 5 mpg. The long tubes pulled the guts out of the 1920,it could not keep up. When I upped the comp with big valves in the head and went with a 350 holley, this thing would smoke a stock 318! Especailly on the highway, the passing power amazing, especially with the 2.93's and where it put my rpms at 65-70.

One piece of advise, watch your tune after the header swap. I fought lean conditions the whole time, eventually burning a exa. valve after some spirited driving. Even with the big vlave head and 2 bbl, those headers sucked the air through that motor like crazy.Learn from my mistakes and watch out for ping, and read your plugs after the first few runs. Enjoy!

well
I not sure if their Hookers but the part number looks Hooker

5601 C

I did a search and found a 5602 number for Hookerslant six , did a search on Hookers web site and no slant six headers anymore from them..or I could not find any.., these were run on a 1965 slant six Dart in 1975 . They do fit our 1968 Dodge Dart slant six that does have a 1970 engine. no power brakes..I bought old sckool white to paint them white like Hookers were back in the day.

as $$ and time upgrades will be made to engine..

I thank you for the exhaust info
take care.

I have those exact same headers, only mine are nice and new, not rusty. I bought them last year from Summit. I have to do a few modifications to my set as I have a Hyper Pack intake and one or two of the tubes doesn't quite clear the runners.

It isn't yet, but I am planning on going from the collectors to a Y-pipe with the tubes being 2.5 in. all the way back. As far as a muffler is concerned, I'm indecisive on which brand I want to go with.

a question
I am trying to install headers and a stock 2 barrel intake...
but the flange on the intake is almost 1/4 inch thicker then the header flange...theres no way the stock triangle washers will work. I have tryed every way up/down/backwards and they bottem out on the intake flange leaving a LOT b4 the exhaust flange..rattle loose ..did your new set come with some special bolts/washers or ???

did a search and found the answer...

Hooker provided special spacers to make-up the difference.
Sounds like you will need to take some measurements and make some spacers.
These are best discribed as 1/2 washers, appx 1/8 thick. I usually tack weld them to the header flange so the don't get lost.

Must be hookers then, cause my cliffords fit with the stock washers. Either way,its the same design,so a similar exhaust system will work.

I heard HOOKER will build a set of headers if you have a part # of any they have built before and I have a set of super competition HOOKER headers that are 6 into 1, I,ll get a # from them and post.
