| Post subject: | New car! 1960 Valiant |
I've been itching to tell someone about my new 51 year old car! It's a 1960 Valiant with a 904 push button and (I'm guessing, haven't verified yet) a 170 slant. Been sitting in a field since '75. Floor have holes because it had floor mats and moisture was trapped under them. Going to pull the slant out of my '64 D100, turbocharge, and install in the Valiant. I'll post pics in the next day or two. Anyone here done a 904 to A 833 OD swap? I think I like the idea unless I can be proven otherwise. I think it is one of the coolest looking cars on the planet! I've been eyeing this same car for the last six years and finally got hold of the previous owner a couple of months ago and persuaded him to sell. Drove ten hours each way this weekend to go get it. |

Congrats on the car man. Sounds like it went to someone who is really going to fix it up and take care of it. An auto to 833 swap is definitely possible but it's not easy nor cheap. Check the transmission forum and search through there for information on it. |

   Started on the brakes last night. going to replace the whole system. With new wheel cylinders being $9/each, why not? New MC is $30ish. Will finish brakes, scrape off loads and loads of dirt/grime/crap, then work on interior (recover seats and get instruments to working) |

I now see those cars as baby 300's. Cool! I would suggest new brake lines while you are at it. It is easy and cheap as well. Get your self a tubing bender, (maybe you have one already) a flare tool, and a tubing cutter, and you are set to do custom tubing bending yourself. You can buy the bulk tube at NAPA. You are smart to start with the brakes. If you plan on driving the car in traffic a fair amount, you may eventually swap in front disks when it comes time to do the front end. Does it run? Sam |

Congratulations on an awesome find. Early Valiants are sweet cars; stylish, timeless, and unique. That's definitely not the worst-looking 1960 Valiant I've seen. Looks better than my 60 wagon when I found it. Check out my before and after pics. I love the red color of yours. I think that's a classy-looking color on the Valiant. It would have the A904, and unless I'm completely incorrect, it would also have the 170 slant, which is what all 60 Valiants came with, the 225 not being available yet.

Eatkinson, that is sweet. When I was in Hungary in 2001 I attended a car show there, and your wagon is actually reminiscent of old cars on display there from the Iron Curtain years. They were elegant, thoughtful designs that were obviously a little off the main stream from what the average American makers were doing at the time. That curved rear class really makes it stand out.
