1965 Dodge Dart 4 door. Hello All!, So the other day i got out of my dart and noticed that the lights were still on. I had pushed in the light switch to turn them off so I was puzzled! After some investigating I found that the brake lights were the ones that were on. So I then went under the dashboard and took a look at the brake light 'trigger' ( not sure the exact name) but its a metal rod with a spring and a white piece of plastic on one end ( the brake pedal end) and a metal connector with a yellow wire which goes to the rest of the wiring. When I removed the metal connector the brake lights turned off. I don't really understand how this little mechanism works as it looks like it was rigged up by someone and has subsequently failed. Is there a diagram on its construction or does anyone know exactly how it works so I can attempt to reassemble it correctly? Any other info would be great as well. Thanks! -Eppy |

The "trigger" is in fact the brake light switch. Works just like the one that turns on the fridge light when you open the door. You need a new one. Call Ray at Old Car Parts Northwest, 206-300-1083. |

Sometimes the switch can get a little tweaked and get out of alignment with the brake pedal. So when the pedal is resting, the switch isn't acuated and the brake lights will stay on. I wasn't able to tweak mine back so what I did was stick a couple of thick washers on the bolt that connects the brake pushrod. That created more surface area for the switch to hit and it's worked perfectly ever since. I think I had to ground one side of the washers down flat so it was flat with the brake pedal itself. |
