I purchased the scarebird disc brake setup for my 70 valiant and took a crack at putting it together. i ran across a few problems, but nothing too major. i just thought i'd share it with you guys.

first off, the wheel kit from scarebird includes:
-brackets
-calipers (loaded)
-brake hoses
-centering ring (used on hub)
-rotors
-wheel seals

everything is packaged in Styrofoam which is great for shipping but sucks when all those little styrofoam chips get wedged into the rotors, calipers and brake hoses. use some compressed air and make sure you blow everything absolutely clean!

the first problem was the brake lines. as you can see in the first picture, the stock brake hose for our car has a "D" shaped head, while the brake hose scarebird uses is a circle and has two extra pieces that the clip goes under. in order to get the hose in you have file away (which is time consuming) and get it to fit exactly.

the next delay was getting the centering ring onto the hub. it is a very tight fit but if you lightly tap all the way around with a ball pin hammer she'll set in there just fine.



the brake calipers also need a little bit of grinding on the outside near the pad clips. the humps were rubbing on the rim. the caliper pad clips must also be properly seated or the bottom one will lightly scrape against the rim and eventually brake.




finally, i don't have the picture for this one, but the brake hose to caliper connection has to go with the wider edge towards the caliper with a copper washer in between. if put on backwards, your calipers will leak.

the instructions that come with the kit from scarebird are pretty spot on. as this kit is so many different parts, there will need to be some grinding, filing, and tight fitment in order for it to work properly.

since i have no experience with disc brakes whatsoever, it took me a little longer than usual to get everything together. i just took the car for a 400 mile drive and stopped true every time.
