Post subject:  6 Into 1 Hooker Header And Trw 2125

I GOT A 225 BORED .040 OVER WITH THE TRW 2125 PISTONS. MY ENGINE INFO SAYS THEY DECKED IT .100 AND MILLED THE HEAD .090 AND I WOULD LIKE TO RUN PUMP GAS IN IT, CAN I MILL THE TRW'S ON TOP?

ALSO

I HAVE A SET OF HOOKER COMPETITION PLUS HEADERS THAT ARE 6 INTO ONE, ANY INFO ON THOSE? GOOD STUFF?, ANYONE WANT A NUMBER OFF THEM?

I'M CURRANTLY REBUILDING THE MOTER.

The amount of material removed from the block and the head are not useful numbers...
Mock-up the engine & head and measure the piston deck height at TDC and CC the head's combustion chamber for that number.
What camshaft do you plan to run? Do you have the cam's info. ? (intake valve closing point at .050)

PS, Please turn-off your "caps lock".

The paperwork with the engine said 10 to 1 compression was found, the cam is an ISKY, 152116 with .228 deg. @ .050.
The engine is a package that was available from a shop and the guy I bought it fron said a number of them where sold, Clifford intake and exhaust, Tufftrided radiused crank, TRW's, MSD multispark, bronzwall guides. Mine had a cam replacment, package had a COMP cam .
The package was sold around Minneapolis, MN. in the late 70's.

OH, 61 degrees.

Never seen a 6 into 1 Hooker. Probably a Mopar Performance (J+R) header.

Does it have nuts welded on the flange next to the exhaust ports?

The header has never been used and has the HOOKER badge attached 'Hooker super competition plus' it says, thats why I asker if you want a number off it so hooker will make you one.
Is there a better scavaging effect with a 6 to 1? Got a 3 inch collector.

DOC; my cams a ISKY grind # VA-160 with intake closing @ 42 deg. after BDC @ .050 lift. I'll get those CC and deck heights this weekend and will measure the stroke (with a depth gage).

We do not need the stroke (4.125)
If you can, check the actual intake closing point at the correct intake valve lash setting for that cam.

Using the info given and some educated guess-work, I would say that the head is around 45 cc and the pistons are -.08 'in the hole' but again, check your engine for the actual measurements.
What head gasket thickness will you use?

From what I am seeing, your compression will be in the high 10s (10.8 ) and the DCR is wayyy high with that Isky cam.

OK Doc; I had to remove the head in quick order to facilitate unloading of the engine. I'll get the measurements and I have a 170 bone stock with 60,000 miles laying around and two 4 bbl intakes, a new COMP cams #284 (which comp says they cant find specs for) new with box and the 225 needs honing so I might get pistons for it and use the TRW's in 170, etc. so I'll be around looking for advice on a package from parts.

There are no nuts welded on the flanges of my header.

I got the spec card that cam with the cam:
Intake
open 24 before TDC
Close 60 after BDC
cam lift .298
Valve lift .448
lash .018 hot

Exhast
Open 60 Before BDC
close 24 after TDC
cam lift ,298
valve lift .448
valve lash .018 hot

Above checked at .020 lifter rise

At .050 intake open @6 before TDC - close @ 42 after BDC
At .050 exhaust open @ 42 before BDC - close 6 after TDC
Whats the cams strength?

Pardon me; the Competitions Cams # should've been posted as a #248 and Comp Cam said they don't have specs for it, I had the spec sheet for it, brought it to work and the turkey ghosts took it from view but I remember it was the same as other Comp cam grinds with # 248, 110 center etc. The cam is hydraulic.
Is Comp Cams the old Competition Cams company?

Hi DOC; the average cc is 51 and average deck height is .073. The min max on deck height is .069 (1) and .076 (6), is that too much? The middle four are .072, .074, .073, .074.

I take it DCR is dead center reading, Ill get a degree wheel and check it before disassembly.

No, it means Dynamic Compression Ratio.

The .005 "slope" in the block decked makes for .1 of static compression difference, front to back... (sloppy work)

Your combo of parts is 'work-able' with the DCR up on the high side for pump gas.

Here are the actuals using your numbers above:
#1 cylinder (.069 deck) is 10.267 static C/R and 8.67 DCR
#6 (.074) is 10.163 / 8.5

Me, I would even-out the block deck to .068 and then "sweep-out" all the head chambers so those end-up at 52 cc.
This would give you a 10.15 static C/R and 8.4 DCR when using a .040 head gasket.
If you use a .020 steel shim head gasket, you get 10.6 / 8.76. ( this combo needs race fuel)

Cool Doc; Thank you. The block has .001 warp end to end maybe the pistons or rods are to fault and the builder put em at extremes instead of fixing. I,ll see on disassemble. I think I ll try the singha grooves on the head too but Ill post a new subject.
The head has .0025" on each end (from center), have you seen that on a shaved head after use?

Now you are opening up a hornet's nest.

What's next HHO systems and Brown's gas?
