What kinds of things are you boys doing to the blocks to strengthen them up for turbocharging? o ringing? custom stiffener plates? four bolt mains? I have no idea if any of these things are even possible on this block. |

Main straps and girdles are done on other inline engines like the Chevy 250/292 and Ford 240/300 engines. So it can also be done on the slants if you feel it needs them. Since they only have 4 mains it might be a good idea if your planning a really high boosted combo. O-ringing the block would be a plus also. |

Fix the stuff the breaks first. You'll lift the head off the block before the bottom end blows out. It's been proven you can run 12s in a full weight street car without touching the long block except to o-ring the deck and screw in head studs. |

Yeah, it really depends on how much power you want to make. Tilley has not used main girdles and has made 630 HP. He has broken some NA motor blocks though due to high revs and/or detonation, as have others with nitrous. Lou |

So I bought a built moter, 225 bored .040 and it has a radiused and carbon nitrided crank (listed as TUFFTRIDED), what should I stop at with shot peened stock rods as opposed to going further with an aftermarket steel and is aluminum just as strong but stresses quicker? |

Just depends on what your end goal is with your engine. I would stick with a good forged or billet steel rod. Aluminum rods, while they do have their place in a performance engine, they also have a life expectancy that unfortunately seems to end at the wrong time, while steel rods can last indefinately when engineered for the correct applications. |

As soon as I get a block lined up I can generate one or even make some.....if there is any interest in it.

i cant really say what horsepower goal i will be aiming for as i don't plan on doing this project for a few year. i would love it to equal to a mildly modded small block. so in the range of 300-400 hp. i have only been part time researching information right now, but believe i would like like to go a EFI and turbocharged. please excuse me if this topic is asked too much. i haven't spent too much researching this as of late. |

I put about an inch of fill in the bottom of mine. No cooling issues as I drive it on the street as well. |

400 HP will live just fine with no block strengthening. I am also targeting 350-400 HP in my '68 Dart and plan to do that with a stock rebuild 150k mile motor (cast pistons, stock rods...). It makes just under 300 HP now. Folks have made over 600 HP with no girdle or explicit block mods such as that. Lou |

What are you trying to do? Stock rods that have been de-burred and resized will hold up to a lot of abuse.I have a set of 198 rods in my junk that have held up to being spun over 6000 for a long time. |
