Post subject:  tefba filters
I want an inline radiator hose filter as i'm getting a radiator re-cored. I came across the Tefba filters when searching because I wanted one that's easy to clean and doesn't require removing parts/draining some of the coolant.

I can't believe the price of these!!!
Seems like a simple design. Does anyone know of any other similar inline filters that are quick and easy to clean (and hopefully cheaper) ?

It is a very well designed and well made unit. I put one on my '73 for awhile, then removed it once I'd caught all the crud I reckoned I was going to catch.

Given the messy-damnuisance consequences of a coolant filter failure, I recommend buying one that's better-built than it absolutely has to be. Be advised, this filter requires several inches of horizontal run in the top radiator hose. If you don't have that, pick a different filter.

So other than this Tefba filter, are there any other well-made ones that are quick and easy to clean?

I see several options including the Golan ones, but those seem to be a pain to clean the filter as I said previously.

Don't know anything about the Golan item. The other one I'm aware of is the Gano unit, but it requires removal from the hose to clean. The Tefba is the only one I know of that doesn't require you to drain down the coolant to service it.

Checking the tefba in my system gets done before every day of use - amazing the crud it catches and I'm still only using the coarse mesh.

Good solid little unit but a bit pricey - I'd just invested in a new radiator and had given the block a heavy cleaning, so wanted to do everything to protect the radiator.

I've heard of other people sticking half a pair of tights in the system, allowing it to sit in the top tank of the rad with the open end clamped between the hose and the radiator fitting. Never done it myself so can't really comment on how well it works.

I like the tefba though, purely because it can be opened without dismantling the hoses. It has a bypass built into it too, which is a nice fail-safe feature.

Thanks Dan and 60 Plymouth for the info. Since i'm spending a nice chunk of change having a radiator re-cored, may as well not skimp out and get an easy to clean screen system. I'll go ahead and get the Tefba!
