Post subject: | Hemi Dissy in 225 SL6 ? |
I have picked up a Hemi Elecronic dissy and for all intense and purposes looks like it will fit a slant 6, it will arrive in a few days, any thoughts guys and if it doesn't I think i can transfer the electrics to my original dissy, RAYCYLED |

Post subject: | hemi dissy fits ! |
Got the Hemi dist the other day and had a good look at it and it fits, same shaft size length and drive gear is identical, at this stage only slid it in to a spare motor in the shed, but cant see any reason it wont work, althought the head of the dissy is bigger doesn't look like it will foul on anything. One problem is the wires to the black box have been cut and seems a bit is missing, will see if I can figure that out on the week end, So i assume that if I fit in the dissy with the rotor button at or near the 1st spark plug point I can use a timing light to get it just right? Check that fit extra-carefully. I'm no Hemi-6 expert, but I seem to recall reading there are two different cam worms, close enough to seem compatible on a test fit but in fact requiring two different oil pump and dizzy drive pinions to avoid shredding things up once the engine's running. |

Thanks for that Dan will do, the Hemi has a nylon drive gear so wont damage the cam gear but can swap over the SL6 drive gear easily enough, RAY |

Sorry I didnt see this earlier, but yes they will fit, cap clearance can be a problem on pre '67 though. |

Forgive my ignorance, but why would you want a Hemi distributor as opposed to the stock type? |

He's in Australia, where the slant-6 was discontinued before the advent of electronic ignition. So electronic slant-6 distributors are neither easy nor cheap to get down there. Hemi-6 electronic distributors are easier. |

Yes as Dan said hemi stuff is much easier to get here in Oz, I fitted it in the spare motor today and yes not a problem there, ther pitch on the drive gear is perfect the vacuum advance misses the block and loi pump will have to modify the metal shield that sits above the oil pump just slightly, other wise all OK, but I still need a wiring diagram for a Hemi so I can hook it up, as some of the wires have been cut, and at a guess 2 feet of wire is missing in between, there are 2 wires ( brown and white) coming out of the dissy, and 6 wires coming out of the control box ? has the resistor still in line. Is there anyone here on the list who is in Sydney who might have a Hemi with elec ignition i can look at my last Hemi a "74. had [points ignition , RAY |

Please don't throw that spanner at me but I can't resist. Be carful I hear distributors rotate bakwards in the southern hemisphere. |

Ho ho ha ha , Our Dissy's turn clock wise so its you that would be backwards, but seriously I have picked up a NEW electronic dissy designed for a hemi and it looks perfect goign to fit it tomorrow cost me $90 AUST plus need a compatible coil about $70, also got to fix the gauges on my dash, what is the resistor I need to get to do the fix? I have seen the instructions on Chucks page but not sure what to ask for from my parts guy, RAY |

Post subject: | UPDATE hemi dissy installed !! |
Well I have done it! and only one little issue to tell you all, after much checking and rechecking I have install one of these new after market electronic dissy's in my 63 Valiant ( A Body )slant 6. fits in with very little to spare but working like a charm, only cost me $95 AU for the dissy and $55 fro the compatible coil, had to make up a holding clamp to secure the dissy you could use one of a hemi I just did not have one. The only issue is the dissy cap is right up close to the inner guard , barley 1/16 " to spare so i have made up a 1/4" spacer block and put it between the engine mount and the block to raise the engine on the dissy side enough to give a little clearance. these new dissy are simple to install you by pass the ballist resistor, just joint the 2 wires together and connect the dissy to the new coil thats it took all of 10 min.
