I've had my hei ignition on for almost 3 months now. Worked great till about a week ago it started having problems when it got to be up in the high 80's. My ignition module has a big heat sink that is mounted to the fender. Well it started out being hard to start, I did have the carb boil the gas out one day cuz of lack of a heat shield. Got the carb issue fixed. It has progressively gotten worse, the hard starting. And when i do get it started it sounds like a poppin Johnny. It also hesitates between 1000-1400 rpms and it sputters a lot. Thought it was the carb. Fixed the vac leak. Still runs bad. It's kind of embarrassing to sit there for a good few minutes cranking. Is it my module or a bad coil? Also when I get it started after it has sat awhile it puffs out a cloud of black smoke upon firing up.

Thanks for the help
Cody

Probably still the carb. Check for spark when you're having trouble getting it started to be sure.

I've used two different carbs with the same results. But I'll check for spark next time I have trouble starting it.
