Post subject:  Windshield Wipers Park too high

I installed a new windshield wiper motor and linkage bushings on my 1986 Dodge D150 pickup. I have adjusted the position of the wipers until desperation set in. If I adjust them to park within 30 mm of the bottom of the windshield in park, they slam into the bottom of the windshield when running. If I stop the wipers at their lowest point and adjust the wiper arms up, they park way too high. It seems that the lowest travel of the wiper arms is lower than the parking position. I have read somewhere that there is a problem with aftermarket motors not parking properly. Does anyone have a handle on this problem?

sounds to me like u have the crank arm on the wiper motor "clocked" wrong on the shaft.

Post subject:  Crank Position

There is a detent on the motor shaft that determines the position of the crank arm. It could be 180 degrees out of position but looks like that would result in the wiper arms stopping at the top of the windshield. What do you think?

Then it sounds like the "new" wiper motor isn't quite correct. Either the flats on the shaft were machined wrong or the park switch is a little off.

If you can weld then cut the crank arm apart & put it together pointing at the correct angle to park the wipers fully down. Otherwise get a motor that works the way it should.

Post subject:  Position of Crank Arm

I think your first post may be the answer. I could have the crank arm on the wiper shaft 180 degrees out of position which could cause the problem. At least, I can try that and see what happens.

We ran into a similar problem swapping 2sp wiper motors - the truck and the car one had arms indexed almost 180 degrees apart. It pays to run the motor and see what it does before you put the wiper arms on!
