Post subject:  Distributor Advance Springs
I picked up a pair of TD Performance Advance springs for Mopar to go with the electric distributor I'll be using when I install the HEI setup.

I read through the engine advance posts in the Engine FAQ, but I guess I'd like a little more info in "Layman's Terms".

I'm a little worried they'd be too much for a daily driver type slant six, but then again, I know you want all your advance in by 2000 or 2500 RPM, right?

The stock springs in the electric distributor are t-h-i-c-k compared to the TD ones.

What do you guys think? Add the springs or not? Educate me! :)

i have found that the after market spring kits are way too light, i find 2 of the lighter stock springs to be better,in your case i would try the stock heavy and light spring and weld the slot for the weight travel to limit the total timing and adj the tenison in the vac pod to limit part throttle timing to were you need it. try this to see if it improves your performance.

Use Joe's spread sheet and document what you have now, then make the changes and re-document, while logging your mileage.

With my vacuum pod (VC-208) which is slotted for more throw, I am running 23 degrees initial plus mechanical @ 2500 rpm because the pod kicks in another 25 degrees for a 48 degree total. In fact at 3000 rpm my total is 50 degrees. I never turn that many rpms normally since the speed limit is 60 or 2500 rpms.
The big long slotted 440 spring stretches just a little more.......then stops.
This is a stock, not rebuilt 79 motor with NGK UR6 plugs. No pinging and I an run 87 all day long and get 22.5 mpg local driving around town, better mpg's on the freeway.. This setup provides a real nice feel for a stock motor.......nice and punchy!
