Post subject: | Blow through Carter BBD? |
After reading through many of these threads you all have me wanting to put a junkyard turbo on my /6 just for kicks. Has anybody modified a Carter BBD 2 barrel for blow through operation? I understand that it is kinda small on the flow side but its what I have and so if I can make it work its what I will use. My other carb choice is a Holley 1850 600cfm that came off a 318. Its vacuum secondary though so that would involve even more mods. I am only looking at running in the 5-8PSI range from a small Volvo style turbo (or what I can pull out of the local u-pull-it yard for cheap). Basically just enough to make the noise and give it a bit more go. The stock 3 speed manual probably wont hold up to much more power anyway. Much searching on the internet has retrieved no results for any information. If anybody has a link I would surely appreciate that as well. |

The hollow brass floats collapse above 5-10 PSI,this is the ONLY reason I'm now running a holley 390. |

Guess thats a no. Seems like with the money spent on a turbo setup I could just throw a V8 in there and have all the power I would want without worrying about smoking a piston or otherwise burning the motor up.............. Plus the sound........ |

I handed a built 360 dart last night his ass, with the good ol turbo 6 after a local car show. ![]() Just depends on what you want man it's easier with a v8 they are widely modifed their would be more off the shelf parts available to go fast. If you want something unique that could be fast with enough time and money then rock the slant six, if not then pop the v8 in. Oh and I think hangar18.com has all those mods you need to make a regular carb good for blow through or just buy a blow through carb possibly. Kev |

I tried a bbd once, and it just can't get enough fuel into the bowl...as it is anyway... I tried asking about it here, and I believe someone commented they had the same problem. yeah, here it is: http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic ... =bbd#88274 I dunno, there has to be a way, but I didn't find it... |

Thanks for the help guys. Looks like Hangar18fabrication.com is under construction so they dont have a ton of info available right at the moment. I have a Holley 650 carb that I could try to use, but its vacuum secondary which I have read isnt the greatest choice for blow-thru operation. I guess I will just keep my eyes peeled for something to come along. I already have most of the means to put a 318 in it I would just like to make some cool power to go along with the cool ride like a lot of you guys have chosen to do. |

Can you enclose it in a box? Or will that squash the float? |

Enclosing it in a box won't solve squashing the float - you'd need a new float (or possibly filling the old one with foam) to solve that issue.
