This is not a smart idea. You'd have to make a bunch of costly, difficult mods to fit a 727 in your car, and you'd wind up with an unnecessarily heavy, unnecessarily power-hungry transmission. You don't need a 727; a 904 in stock form is plenty robust for even a stout slant-6, and the 904 can be built up to take whatever most any slant-6 (or even a pretty strong V8) can dish out. |

If you are (were) running '67 & earlier "small" converter then I'm not surprised that you broke the input shafts. Later 904s lived behind 340s & 360s, so if you get the right parts (HD/ racing) then you''l be fine. (hell, some guys run 904s behind BB... & have them live! The only question is what year crank is in your engine? I don't know if there is any way to fit a later (68-up) "large" converter & input shaft into a 67-down crank. |

Sure there is: enlarge the crank counterbore! If we're going to later whole transmission, though, we're losing pushbutton shift. |

Post subject: | ok thanks for the responses |
i have already pulled out the push button shift and add an additional cross member for the late model 904 to answer dan and what is it about the small converters i am still using that twists my input shafts in two or rips the front pump seals out that the later larger ones would be better. And my block is a 68 with the orginal 63 crank and rods in it Ooo and i have been using a reverse manual valve body with a B&M Z Gate shifter |
