Hi i have a question what would be the best upgrade to increase my horsepower with a small budget, dodge dart 1968 270 thank's. |

Do a good tune-up and a valve lash adjustment. Adjust the distributor's advance curve to allow for 10 degrees of initial advance and 30 degrees total, then use an adjustable vacuum advance "pod" to fine tune the timing curve. A bigger exhaust pipe off the manifold and a free flowing muffler would also help. Get all the extra weight out of the car. (what's in your trunk?) Pump the tires up to the maximum rated pressure. (2 lbs less pressure in the rears) DD |

Ok thank's for the reply, i will definetly look into that, how about if i change my carb + the air intake could that help as well. |

There is nothing to be gained by changing the "air intake", and any carb swap that will do anything for you will also require a manifold swap. It sounds as if you might be new to owning old cars, or slant-6 cars. The first thing you should do is get the three books described in this thread as quickly as possible and read them. The second step is to draw up a list of exactly what you want the car to do differently than it does now, in specific detail, and exactly how much money and time you really, actually have to spend on it. "More horsepower" isn't a meaningful goal. Keep in mind, cars that go better also need to be able to stop better and steer better or they are unsafe. |
