Post subject:  need location of turn signal flasher

Chrysler parts counter says there are two (for a 1968 Dodge Dart): one for turn signals and one for emergency flashers. Emergency flashers work. Can't find the other flasher. Can anyone help?

Try standing on your head underneath the dash. It's usually in the vic. of the ash tray. It's a small, usually(not always)silver-colored cylinder shaped device, about the size of a finger nail polish bottle.

I guess if it's missing, it would be hard to spot. It's supposed to be on the end of a two contact receptacle. The receptacle should be black, and the contacts are arranged 90 deg to each other, kinda like this: l_

Post subject:  maybe it isn't there?

that is what we have been doing. (I just went out and looked again.) Could it possibly not be there? what I mean is, we have found the other flasher for the turn signals which is over more towards the side or the paneling, so I know what to look for, and unless this other flasher is wedged up behind the dash, (would it be?) My dad and I think that it might just not be there, and what we are trying to find is the plug to put in a new flasher. (which would be the grey plastic two pronged-type wire.) Nothing seems to be hanging down with nothing to be plugged into either. I just thought it would be cheaper to figure this out myself instead of paying someone to plug it in for me, however its turning out to be quite the chore.

Some a-bodies, don't remember which specific years, had the flasher clipped directly to the sheet metal 'box' which holds the removable ash tray. I think the idea was to use the sheetmetal as a sounding board for the flasher so you can actually hear the turn signal blinking.

Post subject:  you're a genius!

Bud, Bud, you are way too cool.. we found it! :D
after I read your last post my dad and I went out to the car, he got in, reached underneath the dash, and there was our flasher. Incidentally, my ashtray was stuck closed, so that was one of our problems. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to help a poor girl out - We wouldn't have figured it out had it not been for your expertise.

You know, I have all kinds of useless knowledge which in some rare instances can actually help. You're very welcome. I wish my wife saw it your way.
There are a lot of pretty helpful people on this forum, stay tuned! I get stumped alot, too, and here's where I turn.
