I need a new clutch kit for a 1961 Valiant, the manual says the disc is 9 1/8" in diameter and that is correct but if I look at for example rockauto they have clutch kits with 9 1/4" and 10" diameter, will these kits fit or do I need something else ?

9.25" is the factory spec diameter, I guess for later cars, but there is very little difference between that and yours. If you are not modifying your engine for drastically more power, then the 9.25" is the clutch to order. If they have different options, you might want to order the "higher end" kit.

The 10" was used on trucks and has some design flaws for high power applications. It is heavier and is not needed for stock or near stock engine applications.

Best wishes,

Lou

9-1/8", 9-1/4", 9-3/8", 9-3/32", 9-9/64"…minor trivial differences according to which manufacturer made any particular example of what is commonly referred to as the "nine-inch clutch". Go ahead and order. If you were to upgrade to the 10" clutch, you'd need additional parts, most notably special bolts which were difficult to find the last time I checked over a decade ago.

Oh, also the 10" clutch may not fit inside the early 3 spd bellhousing!

Best,

Lou
