Ok so I hookup my jump cables to the battery on my 73' and I hear a strange and fairly loud buzzing sound coming from I believe the right side of the engine. It's weird. Anyone know what this is? I thought maybe the voltage regulator or ballast resistor is bad. |

H'm. Buzzing from the right side of the engine. Strange! I can't imagine what might be on a '73 that would buzz, unless what you actually heard was the heater blower motor (if there are leaves stuck in the blower or the bearings are bad and the motor was left on, you'd hear a grinding/buzzing kind of noise from the right). There's nothing in the voltage regulator or ballast resistor that could buzz. Not in the alternator, either. |

Did'nt think it was the reg or the ballast. The heater was turned off so I would'nt think that could be it unless maybe a short was giving it a little bit of power even with the switch off? I did realize that the alternator was only putting about a 12.3 volt charge on the battery so I wiggled some wires around over there (this is while it's running so the buzzing already went away) and then the alt started putting out 14.4 volts like it's suppose to. Realized the green wire was undone from the alt and had to repair the connection. I think that might have done it. Did'nt have time to check the buzzing after that fix so I gotta do that tomorrow. |

Quote: Coil? Thought that could have been it. not sure what would cause the coil to buzz anyways. I have replaced the coil at one point. Come to think of it I ran the engine today and there was no buzzing sound. May it was the green wire off the alternator was causing a buzz possibly it was grounding on the block.
