Post subject:  a435 and a833

i'm putting a manual in my 76 d100.

mating it to a 66 slant from a barracuda.

for fuel efficiency, would the 435 have more potential than the 833?

is the 435 overdrive?

in my experience, truck trannies have wider(taller, longer,??) gears, which means lower rpms, which means less fuel consumption.

i realize i will have to change flywheels on the slant.

thanks for any response.

You will have more options with the 833 transmission.
All 435s had a 1 to 1 final (4th) gear but have a super-low 1st gear... it's a "granny low" truck transmission.

The bellhousings also don't interchange between the two transmissions.

Go with A 833 if its strictly gas mileage ,its lighter and less drag from the required oil used+ you can run a steeper gear and not loose your cruise rpm.But remeber that the 435 is a lot stronger and a top loader. The 833 came with a factory hurst shifter on it and a transmission hump adapter that gave room on the floor for the shifter. As long as you keep the horse below 300 your ok-other wise the cluster gear comes apart.Also-the way the trans is set up, OD runs thru the gear set like when its in 3rd gear so OD puts more wear on the trans. The factory filled them with ATF-and they lasted-I used syncromesh and stll shifted good with low drag.Put 90 weight in either the 833 or 435 and the drag gets to be about the same.
