anyone ever run one of these on a slant? I had a power wagon with a 318 and a bbd and I never could get it to run right, I hated that carb. Had a couple of ford products with these motorcraft carbs and they where both excellent running machines. Would a carb of a 302 be too much for a stock slant, am I an idiot for even considering this? The reason I ask is I have the intake off the truck right now to change the exhaust manifold so it would be the optimum time to modify the intake accordingly.

thanks
Kevin

I have several of the motorcraft carbs sitting around also. They are great carbs, easy to work on, and they have a pretty good accelerator pump setup also. Had one on a 400 ford and loved it. Only problem I had was a torn accelerator pump diaphragm once.

They also had a special economy model that had these weird "spoked" boosters that were supposed to improve fuel economy and throttle response. They also cut down the CFM of the carb but at the same time increased the vacuum signal at the booster.

I have ran them on the \6. They work very well. Look for ones with 1.08 on the side. Rebuild kits are readily available and jets and stuff are available from Pony Carbs.

Carb choice: Anything closest to the engine size, vehicle weight, gearing and intended use!
There were more than 130 versions of the Autolite 2100/Motorcraft 2150 carbs, and Ford matched them close to the vehicle, and unfortunately nobody have a copy of the recipe they used for mix and match! A 1.08 off a 289 or 302, or an AMC 304, should work well. Later model economy version 2150s also came with metering rods, and are adjustable to a finer degree.

You need to use the Motorcraft 2150, the Autolite 2100 has no provision for ported vacuum for your distributor's vacuum pod.

Some parts for the Summit 4-barrel carb - which is based on Holley's later version of the Autolite 4100, will fit the 2100/2150, like the primary venturi cluster. The 4100 is in principle a 2100 with 2 additional vacuum operated barrels. Holley 1- or 2-stage power valves fits.

Beware of the number on the tags and carb foot; they don't always match if the carb had many previous owners! Go to mustangtek.com, there you'll find many of the numbers. Ed's carburetor forum at www.network54.com has tons of useful info, as do classicinlines.com.

Adapters may be hard to find, you can make one yourself from quality marine plywood (like I and Mr.Gasket and others do), that way you also get a good heat barrier between manifold and carb. Be careful with regard to vacuum leaks, the carb foot is very narrow.

Pony Carburetors has a reputation for being very difficult to deal with, unless you have a spesific carb number for a spesific Ford-family engine, see Ed's carb forum for other possible parts sources.

Air cleaner from any mopar 4-bbl fits, all Autolite/Motorcrafts has a standard (Holley) 5 1/4 inch dia. air filter base.

Olaf.

I forgot what the high mpg with spokes venturis is call, I think it was called
ecomaster or something like that for autolite and motorcraft?

Would that be better with these carb compared to weber 32/36 DFEV especially with 3 speed automatic equipped with kick down cable/rod?

Reason I ask, I'm having hard time getting weber 32/36 DFEV to work with automatic and it's not doing good as I expected unless computer and engine's condition is conspiring against me.

Cheers, Wizard

Thanks for the info. I'm gonna do some research and see if I can figure out what engine would have an appropriately sized carb for me.
Don't these carbs have the same baseplate dimensions as the popular Holley 2300?
