Post subject:  Hole in Carb?
Hey guys,
was tightening up a few bolts on and around the carburetor and took a peek inside the carb from the top and could see some daylight!?
blocking the sun light I traced it back to a small hole on the side of the carb body.
This may be a very naive question, but is there supposed to be a hole on the side of my carburetor right through to the center, letting light/air into or out of the middle of the carb??

My first though is "No" but if this isn't the case, i'd like to know why it is there

I'd say that there's likely a missing plug or hose barb.....

Gees, I don't know enough of carbs to say for sure but wouldn't that be creating a vacuum leak?
SSD or a carb man will tell us I guess.

Semi off topic miscellaneous ramblings:

Nice photo illustrating automotive design advancement, something that was moving at a faster pace post war to mid sixties than other periods such as mid sixties to late seventies.

My two cars have about the same age difference as yours, and also look to be from two different generations as well, particularly when comparing drive train technology. Hard to believe Dart & LeBaron are from same manufacture.

Once again we are in a period of automotive technological upheaval where rapid changes in our chariest chariots are taking place.

It's a secret passageway to China. :cool: Actually, it's to smooth and calibrate the power valve and vacuum advance transitions. Some carbs have this hole, and others don't. It's not missing any plug or anything.

Say, if you do follow that secret passageway to China - will you ask them to stop making crap reproduction parts for Mopars. Tell them to up the quality or opt out!!!!! LOL

Maybe it's a blowhole...

on a more serious note, why would the factory allow unfiltered air to drawn in? Maybe it is a blowhole after all.

I agree, I quite enjoy seeing the progression of vehicle types and technology, side by side.

Personally, in a dream world, I'd love to own a MOPAR from every decade! ..just one from each is all I'm asking ;)
