Use a small jack and a block of wood to hold transmission up. Put the jack and peice of wood under the front edge of the transmisssion pan. Richard |

Yes and don't forget the torque convertor bolts must be removed first, then slide convertor back into the transmission. Richard |

On an automatic I take a can of spray paint and spray one ear of the flex plate while attached to the torque convertor...that way you can line it back up without much of a fight when you put things back together...-D.Idiot |

I just did two engine R&Rs, leaving the auto trans in place, one a 75 Dart Sport 225, one a 74 Scamp 318. It helps to jack up the front of the trans as high as possible (without hitting the tunnel or stressing anything) as you lift the engine, to get the motor mounts clear of the frame receptacles, especially if the spool type, which have to come a long way up. Leave the trans front jacked up, to give you the same good angle when mating the engine to the trans on the way back in. Then once they're together and the weight of the combined unit is on the hoist, remove the jack from under the trans front and lower the whole assembly. My 225 practically installed itself on the way back in; the 318 took a lot more struggling. Making sure your engine/trans bolts and threaded holes, and alignment dowels and their holes are all in good shape, helps. Andrew |
