Post subject: | Whining noise in low gears |
Hi there. I have a 73 Valiant with 225 and 904 auto. I was just getting ready to finish my body and paint work when a potentially expensive noise cropped up. Whenever I shift into Neutral and when I am going up through the low gears, the car makes a progressively louder whining noise. It seems to stop when I'm around 45 or so. Any ideas here? I can't afford any more expensive problems! |

FSM lists for buzzing noise: A. Low Fluid B. Pump sucking Air C. Valve body malfunction D. Overrunning clutch inner race damaged B through D require disassembly, so check fluid level after fully warmed up. Once warmed up, park on level ground parking with brake set, idle engine for a two minutes, run transmission gear selector slowly through all gears pausing momentarily in each ending in “Nâ€. Fluid should be at “Full Mark†or a little below when hot, but never above full mark to avoid foaming. Foam will change internal line pressures, and raise hell with everything. If it is over filled, remove some fluid by sucking it out sticking via a small hose fished down transmission dipstick tube. |
