im starting a rebuild on a 67 slant six. i want to make it a performance and was going to bore it out to the max. i was wondering what the most you can bore it to.

also i was going to stroke it but i heard that there was no crank made to stroke a 225. if you know of one that can be used let me know.

Hi edward9egan, you may just have to throw in the towel, and start reading! :D
The reason I make such a statement, is that most of the info you seek i already under your fingertips. Take a look in the 'Frequently Asked Question' (FAQ) in he different sections, where most questions are answered before you ask. In the 'engine' FAQ, you will find a link to the articles, where you will find Doc's excellent article on stroking the SL6. Do yourself a favour, and browse the article section and the FAQ, you will not find such info anywhere else.

Please take photos as your build evolves, we are always hungry for pics!

Olaf.

Re bore: Depends on the thickness of the cylinder walls, let a shop measure before making decisions. I think people has bored to 3.5"!

Boring a slant six doesn't amount to much as far as cubic inches go.

Stroking has it's own set of challenges. Mainly budget-wise.

Once you've read the "Stroking the Slant Six" Article, you'll understand those two statements.

I've got a .045" Overbore with a 4.475" Stroke. (Stock stroke is 4.125")

For that, I get 250 cubic inches, and an engine that doesn't like to spin up very high. It's a torque monster, so is a lot of fun, but doing a weld-up crank isn't cheap.

Read up in the engine building Matrix linked from the FAQ. There are ways to get some serious Horse Power listed there.

.100" overbores are fairly common, but like Olaf pointed out, the cylinder walls need to be checked prior to getting crazy with the machine tools.
