Ouch, checked my oil yesterday, and dipstick had foam all over, never seen that before in my SL6 engine. :cry:

Engine has not been raced, just driven normal. Is there anyone who had the same experience with a slant, and what was the cause?

I suspect a crack, but I'll check the cyl. head torque first thing. Without having checked compression or vacuum readings or anything else, the last week the engine feels like it runs a bit rough, nothing that I really can put my finger on...

Seems like my project engine may have to serve as my daily engine for a while...

What kind of oil? have seen Pennzoil do this.High parrifin content is what I was told.

Sounds like you have need to replace the PCV valve, it is also caused by short runs that don't let the oil hot enough to vaporize the moisture.

madmax/6, I ran out of Red Line, so I had to use another synthetic 5W-30 oil that I have used before, but it was some 2 months ago since the last oil change. I usually check my lights and fluids every week, it has been a fixed rutine for years, and this problem is a new one.

Richard, I'll check the PCV, but I think it is OK, because I have no other problems related to that valve. I have a new one, so I'll replace it and see what happens. Moisture in the oil from short runs; I am really not sure, I think most drives have been long enough to get good heat, and there have been regular longer drives for at least one hour at the time. On the other hand, we have had the wettest summer here for 140 years, with plenty moist air!
Moisture in the oil from a leaky head gasket or a cracked head is what I fear may be the reason, but I have also seen foam before in other engines, and that was probably for the reason you suggest, because it went away again after an oil change, and never gave any more trouble.

I have a new batch of Red Line, so I'll change the oil and filter, and see what happens next.

My vote is for normal mosture too. Some auto parts stores have an oil testing service,this will check for antifreeze in the oil,and tell you if you have an internal coolant leak.During cold weather,my 230,000 mile S/6 gets a 1/4 inch coating of white-yellowesh goop in the top of the valve cover. It clears up in the summer,and it never needs any coolant.
