Post subject: | setting up Holley 2300 |
I'm trying to set up a Holley 2300 for my car. Soaked in solvent for several days, sprayed carb cleaner through all the passages, new gaskets, etc. The problem I'm having is that under normal conditions I can't get anything out of the pump discharge nozzles. If I repeatedly pump the accelerator pump real fast, I can get a weak shot. I've double and triple checked that the passages are clear. Do I need a different sized pump cam? I'm running the biggest one I had, though I don't recall the number on it off hand. Pump discharge nozzles are 35s, and swapping out different strength accelerator pump diaphragms didn't affect anything. Any pointers would be appreciated. |

Did you replace the diaphram in the pump? |

It sounds like the check ball(s) are missing or not sealing well. (#25 & 89) http://www.holley.com/data/TechService/ ... 20View.pdf Inspect the check balls for a smooth surface and also look at the condition of it's seat. Also check the gaskets at the metering plate & float cover to be sure you are getting a good seal around the pump shot passageway at those points. DD |

Holley often supplies several gaskets to service a number of different carburetors in their rebuild kits. One has to be carful to match up their new gasket with the exiting gasket. There are subtle differences in them, and one of the areas to look for is the placement of the accelerator pump passage so that it lines up with a hole in the new gasket. |

1) Check the pump per Doc, if you have an old Holley it will have a captured ball, if it's newer it will have the rubber umbrella valve seal. 2) Check the gasket holes per Wjajr, this is important, not all Holleys have the same port features in the throttle body and plates. 3) Qualify the pump stroke...the lever that is moved by the pump cam, has a spring loaded end that moves the pump lever, if you pull the throttle lever to full open the lever should allow you to put a .015 feeler gauge between the end of the spring loaded bolt head and the pump housing lever with a bit of resistance( like lashing your valves), if it's to easy, you need to take up the slack until it's correct. That will ensure you are getting the full "pump" out of the pump. -D.Idiot |

Finally remembered to check out the carb. while at my buddy's shop tonight. There are not provisions for check balls in either places shown on the diagram. Gaskets and passageways have been checked and triple checked. Pump stroke was adjusted several different ways across the spectrum while on the car, without any change in pump shot. We are stumped... |

There has to be "one-way" check valves somewhere in acclerator pump system. (There are ususally 2, one is the "gate" for incoming fuel, into the pump, the other is between the pump and the discharge nozzle(s) Keep looking... DD |
