So while reading the forums today I stumbled over this post and realized that I may not have the correct valve cover for my '66 Dart. I have a chimney style PCV valve assembly, is this year-correct for a '66 Dart or should I have the hole style valve cover?

Also, my PCV chimney has never sealed very well (its really just kind of sitting there) and I don't think its the complete assembly (missing any kind of spring that SSD mentioned in the post linked above). So the question then is, is it cheaper get an all new PCV valve assembly (where would I get it?) or go pull the correct valve cover ($4 at junkyard) and get the later style PCV valve?

Would not surprise me if at least a few '66s left the factory with '61-'65 style valve covers. Even less of a surprise for the VC to have been swapped sometime in the last 45 years.

You can get new PCV valve, cap, and spring for a whackload of money, see here. You can put up a "Parts Wanted" ad and someone (Doc?) will come up with a spring for you. You can do like this and forget the spring. Or you can swap on a later valve cover and grommet-mount the valve.

:shock: $70 for a cap and spring, that is just too much.

So I'm leaning toward getting the correct valve cover since in the post you linked to you mention that the plastic valves work better in those covers. I can pick up the cover real cheap, but what grommet would I use?

And just for good measure, is there a PCV valve you recommend for a 225?

The correct valve cover for your '66 would be a '66-'69 item. Oil cap/breather chimney up front, flat hole with grommet for PCV valve at the rear. The grommet is the standard Chrysler PCV valve grommet, fits '66 and up, available everywhere in varying levels of quality.

A '70-'80 valve cover would also work and would likely be easier to find. Twist-in oil cap at the front, PCV grommet in the middle, larger breather grommet at the rear.

As for the PCV valve: I lean towards a genuine Mopar valve, but if that's not possible or practical, try to avoid a Fram unit.
