My '86 D100 has a tranny that is leaking like a sieve. I cannot tell where exactly it is coming from. Any thoughts how to narrow down the location?

the best thing to do is clean it up really good with a degreaser (engine brite) and then take it for a short drive to see where the leak is coming from. without cleaning it first it's mostly just a crap shoot.

Get it up on jackstands in all corners. Fill a spray bottle with a weak to mediumish strength degreaser mix and spray it all over. Then take a garden hose with a water pistol and rinse it all off. You want every last bit of gunk gone. Wait for everything to air dry then run it while it's on stands and go through the gears.

Don't assume that "if the leak ends here that means it came from there". When at speed the wind rushing underneath the body makes leaks defy gravity, do u-turns, etc.
