Hello folks! I hope someone can help me out.
I just installed a reman Holley 1945 on my '75 Scamp. It runs great when warm, but runs like crap when cold. My first thought was choke.
Also, Is it necessary to keep all these pollution lines connected?
If you could give me some starting points and suggestions I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Hello. Probably the best place to start would be the appropriate manual in THIS (click the red text) thread.

Is there a secret handshake I need to learn here?

First make sure everything is working as it should, paying particular attention to the choke thermostat and the choke pull-off and all related adjustments. Sounds like you do indeed have choke issues. My usual recommendation is to replace the nonadjustable, persnickety factory setup with (in your case a #1234) Electric choke kit, which is fully adjustable. The carb may also be due (or overdue) for disassembly, thorough cleaning, and reassembly with a good-quality carb kit.

Whether or not you must keep all the emissions equipment in place and function depends on the emissions laws in your area and your conscience.

If you are legally allowed to remove emissions equipment, then the only hoses that MUST remain connected to the carb are the PCV hose and the distributor vacuum advance hose. The heated air intake hose is also a very nice feature to leave functional. All the EGR equipment can go. The charcoal canister really doesn't harm performance and can be left in place (but change the filter).
