what is the easiest way to do the valve adjust on a brand new motor. i set #1 exh/int since it was already tdc. now on to the next one, i guess just roll the motor over clockwise and do each one one by one, 153624. or is there a way to set 2 cylinders every certain amount of turns of the crank? maybe there can be another FAQ for this, for initial valve adjust im having a hell of a time setting the side lash of the rockers as well, what a pain in the ass. have to remove the assembly like 20 times to get everything right. i did notice the rockers fit on the shaft fairly loose. they can jiggle and wiggle, any input would be nice |

Not too critical; get it in the loose ballpark then do the actual adjustment once the engine's hot and running. |

okay i &#@% up and lost my place, it has something to do with iddiotic memory loss lol. how do i figure out where TDC #1 is again with the head on, so i can go ahead and adjust that. and also what is your guys technique to initially adjust them. is there a certian amount of turns to go from 1 to 5, and so on... i believe this is the last major and critical step in my build. after this is the nicknac stuff.. (i hope) |

Not by number of turns, but by clearance between the tip of the rocker arm and the tip of the valve stem. See valve adjustment. |

(1) valve cover off (2) turn crank until timing mark is at zero (3) keep turning crank and watch valves in #1 (4) turn crank until #1 intake valve opens and then closes (5) after valve closes, rotate crank until timing mark is at zero You have now arrived at TDC on the compression stroke (assuming your timing mark is accurate). Set the lash on #1, rotate crank 120 degrees (watch for intake open and close even on #5), adjust valves on #5, repeat through the 1-5-3-6-2-4 firing order. |

i have also did some light reading and a picture found, i guess my rockers are worn out... since they all turn by finger, i thought those damn jam nuts were suppose to be there... thats how i would have done it if i designed these things. just like the germans.. lol i figure i could put a couple drops of red loctite, so they will stay when adjusting, while running, atleast temporary, then i could shut car off, and snug up those lock nuts |

Scout around for someone selling a motor and get yourself some "new" rockers, or put a want ad on this site. I'm sure someone has some extra rockers they would sell you. Loose rockers won't change the process I described to set the lash cold. |
