| Post subject: | Carter BBS Fast Idle Screw |
The Fast Idle Screw on my car's BBS has come loose and is now resting comfortably somewhere alongside I 95. Same carb that lost it's Pump Arm Screw six months ago (thanks, Charrlie). I guess I need me some loc-tite. I'm looking for a replacement, of course, and found this one for a BBD. So my question is, does anyone know if this one, which looks correct, will also fit a BBS? Note that this is the screw that secures the Fast Idle Cam; it is not the fast idle adjustment screw. It is #5 on this diagram. Thanks, Richard |

Main reason you had lost these items is missing the springs. This is the key item that prevents these screws to undo themselves and get lost. Cheers, Wizard |

It wasn't the adjustment screws that were lost, it was the special machined screw that attaches the cam. See part #5 below. The previous one I lost was #11. I ordered the one in the ebay link above so I will be able to answer my own question in a day or two. Meanwhile I was able to rig something with an M6 screw, a pair of washers and some heat shrink tubing  Worked fine during the commute today, but I will be relieved to get the right one on there.

Well the short answer for anyone who might need this in the future is that the screw from the BBD does not fit the BBS carb. Not only is the screw thread different, but it has a flat head and not the cylindrical head that the BBS screw has. It is the head of this screw that stops the travel of the idle adjustment screw. If anyone has an old BBS core that they'd like to sell, please PM me. I will also post on that part of the forum. Alternatively, this might be a good time to either switch back to a Holley 1945 or a 1920 if I can find a good one. Any suggestions on this would be welcome. Richard |

I received replacement mixture screws for my BBD from Daytona Carburetors.I may not be correct on the name but they were recommended by SLANT SIX DAN. I recommend you contact them They have millions of parts and are willing to help. I am at work right now so I do not have Access to the contact info. they helped me and are #1 in my book |

If you cant find them anywhere else shoot me a PM and I'll send you both of those, if you pay the shipping. I've got still got my old BBS around here somewhere. Its a piece of junk (super warped body, holley reman) but it has those screws in usable condition. Or if you are lucky SlantSixDan might post a great source of these parts. |

Even with the spring my screws back out. A little wipe of RTV cures it. These things are old and the screw wiggles open the threads in the hole. |
