hi again,

1976 plymouth valiant (with ac)
Has emissions sticker (which looks original)
have began re-routing vacuum lines in accord with sticker.
Routing was screwy and wrong on a couple of different points relative to sticker---although car ran/idled great before.....
the sticker looks correct in accord with the emissions componets on vehicle....
so
just one question..
sticker shows diverter valve on air pump vacuum hose going to what looks to be a T that couples to choke vacuum diaphram, which then both are T'd to carb vacuum source. Does sound right???
because its connected know....

76 manual says nothing about where the diverter valve vacuum hose connects to carb...

ok, one more please---

someone took out the thermal sensor from inside the air cleaner.

Although it still has the vacuum diaphram (hockey puck) on air cleaner snorkal... i connected a vacuum hose from carb (vaccum port)to the vacuum diaphram directly(hence, no thermal sensor)...

car off, heat control door down(no heated air/just outside air)
As soon as i start car, check, door is up(just heated air)

I know this is not the proper set up...but

Will that door go down after engine is heated up(less vacuum)
or will this door stay up=bad

If this is just bad--should i plug off vacuum source at carb?
And what about the vacuum diaphram at snorkal????

all right,,, last one--
I looked at message history here at /6 and was convinced about bypassing the osac valve.. i did that.
Do you have to adjust timing or any other adjustment after the bypass???
thank you guys very much in advance

Which exact 1976 manual are you using? The diverter valve needs a source of manifold vacuum. So does the choke pull-off. So it stands to reason that there might be a tee in the vacuum line to the choke pull-off, with the tapped-in line running from that tee to the diverter valve. However, offhand I'm not sure if that's the way it's supposed to be. Follow the vacuum diagram in the 1976 factory service manual.

With vacuum directly to the air cleaner actuator, it will stay in the up/heat-on position whenever the engine is running. Install a new thermal sensor. If you can't find one locally, I have one for you.

What do you have the timing set at now?

thank you Dan--

i have the 1976 two volume set from chrysler--(chassis and electrical)
from manual----"reinstall vacuum hose to diverter valve"
picture shows hose trailing off under air cleaner housing.....(diagram)
Thats it...unless im just not seeing it..

As long as the diverter valve needs vacuum, it might be correct. I was just uncertian about it T'ing with choke pulloff??? The stcker does seem to point to that configuration..although the sticker is as good as stickers get in being specific and clear...

---"With vacuum directly to the air cleaner actuator, it will stay in the up/heat-on position whenever the engine is running. Install a new thermal sensor. If you can't find one locally, I have one for you."---

thats what i thought...Dan i would really apprieciate that... just called napa--and you probably know the rest... Im new here, so PLEASE let me know how to contact you about getting the sensor...

----"What do you have the timing set at now?"---

Ok, you cracked the nut there...just bought this bute, and havent even looked at the timing.. It has been running great so, i havent even touched it.. (although, all my reading of past posts (much is yours)about proper emissions routing and components drew me into checking the vacuum hose routing--and now im here.....

So looking beyound my ignorance and my need to get a timing gun(i know)
Hey before this i had a honda civic which i hated, but it ran without being touched----(its been years since i wrestled with a /6, and TIMING!!!!!)
do i need to adjust???
