OK my door handle buttons? stick some times why? fix? worn? lube? wazzzzz up wit dat anyway.. |

The latch mechanism and button are lube points. Consult your factory service manual for the means of lubricating the linkage and the proper lubricant to use. |

Best course of action would be to remove the external door handle from the door. Pull interior door panel, roll window up and you will see just how it comes apart. Small vice grips and mag light will be your friend. Once handle is out, play with it to try to get it to stick. Chances are there maybe paint build up, corrosion, old hardened lube, poor casting, or it works just fine. Sometimes old potmetal castings will deform slightly over many years, and moving parts may need to be dressed with a file to free them up. If the handle works freely, the problem is at the latch, the device that grabs the door frame when door is closed. Spray the latch mechanism freely with WD 40, paint thinner etc., but not something aggressive that will peal off paint, until all the dirt & hardened grease is flushed out. Lube it with just enough white grease that it works freely. Another spot that may cause problems is where the tail end of thumb button contacts the lever that moves the latch rod. I had to build up the one on my driver’s side door by tacking a small chunk of sheet metal on to it. You may find that by reinstalling door handle before flushing latch, it will be easer to manipulate while decrudding it. Make sure the passenger’s side door is unlocked so you can access the one being worked on just incase some silly little mishap takes place and it becomes closed without a handle… Just say’in. Thought number two a day later: bad thumb button return spring. |

I've had that happen on a couple cars. What I found was this, the button pushes on a lever (a bellcrank connected to the door latch). The lever is bolted to the handle (inside the door). The screws had loosened & the lever was out of position- jamming the button. Fix is to remove the inside door panel & the outside handle. Clean & lube everything- put the screws in with a little loctite. |
