Post subject:  question about what happens when shifting to reverse

Hi everyone!

I wasn't exactly sure about where to post this one in and it probably should've gone under tranny stuff, but we'll see.

My driveway is on a slant (and my slant's on my driveway :) ) and when I give my car a good bit to warm up, such as when I start him up and then go to tweak with his idle or just dust the filthy bastard off, then go to drive and drop him into reverse, there's usually a big shift in the car. you know, a big clunk and he settles backward a little, then we go. this is something I've always considered to be an earmark of an old car.
so, tell me why he doesn't do it when I jump in, give him two minutes to warm up and go. it seems that when he's cold, there's no lurch. he just shifts and stays in place until my foot comes off the brake.

this seems like something that my brain should be able to wrap around, but I'm useless with trannies and I suspect that's where I'm looking... but you tell me.

... and just because I can't help myself... spotted a Swinger in The Jerk. I've watched that movie for years and never noticed that his getaway car from the gas station is a Dart :P
