If you are OK with a "solid" feeling shift, get the TF2 kit.

Besides a firmer shift what are the advantages of a shift kit? Will it perk up a stock engined car?

Only thing shift kit will do is shift quicker into gear NO faster performance.

Advantages:
Quick, firm shifts. Longer friction life, lower operating temperatures.

Disadvantages:
As far as the car is concerned, not many. If there is something worn in the suspension or drivetrain, a kit will likely bring it to the surface more quickly.

Considerations:
Depending on what level you go with, and any further mods to the transmission, it can make street use tiresome. Depends on what your willing to put up with. Downshifts are similar to upshifts. Quick and much more "snap" gets translated to the chassis.
Coupled with high durometer mounts, shifts feel like a sudden punch in the back. Even at low throttle settings, a track setup can chirp the tires going into 2nd. In a stock car, the additional weight may reduce or delete that tendency.
Take a ride in a car with this sort of mod prior to pulling the trigger. It's not for everybody.
I've only installed track kits. I like firm shifts, but don't think I'd like to run around town on a regular basis with this kind of shift behaviour.
