hey everyone... 1976 plymouth valiant-- bone stock original 225, ac, --all emission devices match emission sticker- Recently, I REROUTED all of the vacuum hoses according to emissions sticker, (much of the prior vacuum hose routing was way off according to sticker,(yet ran fine)--?????---stupid-i did not cronical the prior screwed up routing... --vacuum amplifier(not tested,routed correctly) egr(stem does move, routed correctly), air pump (diverter valve), routed correctly according to emissions sticker catalytic converter(not sure if its been gutted), cceger valve(not tested, yet routed correctly-sticker) solenoid valve(not tested, yet routed correctly--sticker), char. canister(looks complete,all hoses routed correctly), pcv valve(not tested), manifold heat control valve(smoothly rotates) crankcase inlet air cleaner(not cleaned)--- I added a thermal sensor to air cleaner housing.(missing upon inspection) The snorkal flap is working proper KNOW. Wasent BEFORE.... I did bypass osac (in accord with research from past posts on /6 forum) Yes, distributor hose going directly to vacuum port to carb..(that was how it was, prior to rerouting...) Crank, crank, crank, crank--- forever-- right now on cold starts. (thats another post) ---I have not touched the carb.. prior owner said he had it rebuilt..1945 holley--- Once she does start, and warms up, the rest of the drive is a pleasure...No stalling around turns, no idle highs or lows, great on the highway, power seems right for a 225.(no detonation, ping) Restarts, after all warmed up, are spot on, no problems... Yet, (im a granny driver, sip the gas guy) and as I feather the the gas pedal,--- it has that short stutter, dead zone. Bottom line, if i put the pedal to it from idle, it will fall on its face.... No matter hot or cold... For the life of me, during the the drive time i had, when the vacuum hoses were routed "wrong",(according to sticker)i just dont remember the slant doing what its doing now....i just dont remeber... Soo... No, i have not looked at the timing. I will admit to not having a timing light yet. I will get that soon... Yet, honestly, this "falling on its face from idle" thats the ONLY problem i have with this great beast... everything else is spot on... Could anyone just point toward what i might look at...???? thanks much |

Sounds like it might be a bad accelerator pump in the carb. With the engine off, air cleaner off, hold choke open. Look down carb, and see if you have a good strong shot of fuel, as you open the throttle, at a moderate speed. If not you need a new acc pump in the carb. |

Charrlie_S Thank very much for your reply. Looks like this one seemed obvious to everyone. i just thought since i had changed the route system for the vac lines. Or because of my bypassing the osac, which the emission sticker shows a route for, that those factors may be causing this symptom. Yet the acc. pump sounds right. Its just another excuse to research and learn... Its my daily get to work vehicle, so i will try and tackle the carb on a span of days off. i will remember to report back with results. cheers |

My 1945 did the same thing, not a wheel spinner that's for sure. After you verify it has a descent pump shot, check timing. They go hand in hand to enable snappy take offs and descent acceleration. |
