I plan on doing some work on my engine this winter, I already have most of my parts collected. I've had my spare head shave .050 to get my compresion up to about 9.0 to 9.5 also bigger valves , got clifford shorty headers, offy 4 barrel intake ( thanks to Rug trucker) carter afb 4 barrel. now for the heart of the question what and where do i need to get my cam?? I'm not looking for a full blown race cam to drive or the street or something so big i even need a stall torque converter just to get something little more out of the work and parts I got any help greatly apreciated. Thanks in advance ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The Erson 270 cam would be a good choice, I believe. You cannot really get much of a cam to work with a stock converter. Lou |

For a street/strip car that is not too ragged, I like a 2800-3000 stall (on a Slant) converter in 9.5" or 10" diameter. Do not be tempted to buy an 11" converter. Midwest converters, Edge Converters, and PTC (google them) all offer good units. If you get a converter like that, then you might try an Oregon Cams regrind with the 234/228 @ 0.050", 0.479" lift. It is cam grind #346. Cam choice can be a very personal thing. This is a mid-range cam that will make good broad power, but as not much below 2000. Lou |

I went with the 270 cam in my build, and though I didn't need a stall, until I took for a spin,,man it was a dog on the bottom, but woke up around the 3000 rpm mark which took awhile to get there, since thats where that cam starts to turn on. I got the edge converter 3200 stall 9 inch, and that made a big difference on the bottom as well as top end. It won't hurt the gas mileage if you drive it senceable, but man it hard to keep your foot out of it. Its a great combination. |

Before making any decision, you may also want to browse the Engine Build Matrix in the engine section's FAQ, lots of good tips there. Olaf |
