Hi guys: i will buy an remanufactured engine in USA, but i don´t know if to buy the slant six 225 U$1200 or a V8 360 U$1200, the conversion from a slant to V8 is hard? are much part to change? and what about the performance of the engine the relation of HP economy and weight, sound an those things. I know that the dodge aspen was built with the V8 360 too, but i dont know if it was used to export because here in Chile comes only with slant six and A904 tranny. well Give some words to decide what of the 2 engines is better to restore more original possible... my Dodge Aspen 1979 TF A904. thanks, and i´m sorry if someone feels bad because this is the slant six forum. ![]() |

If your 79 Aspen was originally equipped with the slant, then the easiest would be to replace the slant with another slant. If you swapped to the 360 (or any LA motor, then you're looking at either a K Frame change or modification, small block transmission, radiator and other possible changes. |

I don't know much about Aspen's but if its an original stant six car you'll more than likely have to swap the k frame, transmission, drive shaft, exhaust and possibly rear end depending on which is in there. |

Si, es verdad. Mucho trabajo! If your Aspen came with a slant six, then it would be much easier to swap in another slant six. If you want a 360, you will have to change the transmission, K-member, and probably the driveshaft and differential. Go with a 225 slant six, you will be glad you did! |

I should also add that back when I bought my 1978 Volare (Volares are almost identical to Aspens), my plan was to swap in a 318 or 360 V8. I even had an entire parts car to make the swap easier. That was back in August of 1993, but the slant six won me over with it's rock solid reliability, and ease of maintenance. |

A drive a slant six Aspen Wagon, and I have a friend with an Aspen Sedan that came with a 360 and A/C. He has twice the fuel consumption as I have, but not twice the power. His car is notably heavier in the front, so on a twisty road, I outrun him easily. My advice: Stay with the slantsix 225. Before installing it, go through the 'engine' FAQ, and see if you can do some of the small modifications that make the engine more driveable, like the fuel line mod, install a heat shield, HEI ignition, a recurved distributor.
