I have a set on my '66 and they seem to be doing OK. I did have to drill out the holes in the front hangers and get some 5/8" bolts though. They use the big eye and bushing on those springs.

I was breezin' thru the JC Whitney catalog and ran across 63 thru 76 new leaf springs for 54.95 ea. Has anyone used these? I have major sag on my 63 Dart and definatly need replacements. |

Thanks Dennis, I think I'll order a pair. I have a 50% off shipping coupon and seems I can't beat that price. My front end kit I'll buy from Just Suspension. I think their kit with poly bushings is the cheapest around and I can just pick-up my purchase there. 1 hr. round trip. You see Ladd,... I'm Scottish, very thrifty folks(so I'm told) always looking for a good bargain. Hey!.... Jackie Stewart has'nt drove in ages. He's only a car owner now. Been running a set of 5 leaf J.C.Whitney springs for 3 years only problem,they raised the 64 Valiant to high in back. Go for the 4 leaf springs. |

Greetings Gentlepersons, I just installed the new leaf springs suggested above on my 63 Valiant. They work well and definately have improved ride and handling as well as reducing some of the clunking sounds eminating from various parts on the Valiant's anatomy. The current catalog does not list 63 as being included in the range of cars covered by these parts, but they work on mine. The installation was like described above, but the part numbers in the latest catalog are different. Also, JC Whitney had only one spring in stock and had to send the other one 4-5 weeks later. That didn't hurt me, but in you are in a hurry you might want to chaek their available stock. Later. |

I have a set of leaf springs which I had two leaves added to each side. I'm trying to decide if these springs would be good for a drag car or not. They are stiffer than stock, obviously. Is that good or bad for drag racing? I've read about Super Stock springs and believe that they have one more leaf on one side than the other, but are SS springs looser or tighter than stock? What is the best set up for drag racing? It's a stock slant 6 car now and probably won't ever see anything faster than 15-16 second quarter miles. Also, what would be the best set up for my street car that I want to handle well? I may take it to an autocross occasionally. Should I keep the springs with leaves added for the street car and do something else for the crag car, or what? Thanks, Rob |

The stiffer springs will be better for an autoX car, and you will probably want to use something with more flex for the drag car. Personally, I have used the JCW HD 5 leafs on both my cars and the are plenty stiff - even a little too stiff for my '64 road race Dart (light car). I got the '64 to hook up well down to about high 14s with 245/60-14 street tires (S rated) and those springs. I think I could have softened it up and gotten better traction. Lou |

Thanks Lou, That's about what I thought. I figure I won't have too many traction issues with such a slow car. I'm switching rear ends and was thinking I would just swap the springs with the rear to avoid breaking or stripping the 30 year old U bolts, but I would rather keep the thicker leaves for my Dart and save the money of buying any new springs. The somewhat worn original springs on the Duster should be okay for now. I look forward to seeing you at Bristol. Rob |
