Post subject:  Oil Pressure Sensor connection

I noticed today while crawling around under my 86 D-100 that the wire that connects to the canister type of the oil pressure sensor is just hanging with with just a bare wire. What type of connector do I need to hook this back to the sensor?

Thanks!

Does your sensor have what looks like a threaded post sticking out of the top?

If that's the case, any local hardware store should carry a terminal connector that mounts to that post with a nut (nut still on the post?).

Just use a terminal with an "eye" that matches closely to the post... and crimp & solder that bad boy to your wire.

...On the threaded post, you should have a washer, the terminal, locking washer, then the nut...

The factory used a fairly cheesy method to hook the wire to the factory oil pressure gauge sending unit. The terminal sticking out of the sending unit has the profile of a capital "T". The factory terminal on the wire was a plastic clip with a large "U" shape on the bottom and a flat metal bar inside the plastic clip behind the "U". The plastic clip pushed onto the "T" in such a manner that the vertical leg of the "T" slid into the "U" on the plastic clip and the horizontal top bar of the "T" was held against the metal bar inside the plastic clip by the plastic sides of the "U". It gets hot, warps, wears out, and generally begins to fall off after several decades. I suspect it could be easily replaced with a female spade terminal such as a crimp-on speaker terminal.

This works but you have to use a scratch awl or small thin screwdriver to open up the 'curls' on each side a bit to properly fit over that connection at the sensor...

No threads and/or nut. I believe it is the "T" termnal. I'll try the spade connector this weekend.

I seer your truck has the convenient T junction coming off the oil pump that allows for an oil pressure gauge sending unit AND an idiot light sending unit to be attached to the pump. Nice feature.
