Post subject:  Oil Pump

using the SEARCH feature on this forum is frustrating.

I am looking at different Oil Pumps and looking for input/information on a decent replacement. Melling shows a Standard and High Volume, I believe Standard would be fine for my driving. Does anyone sell a oil pickup for 225 slant 6? Any input appreciated.

You can reuse your stock oil pickup. They are not meant to be replaced unless damaged.

Personally, if my oil pump was working before I did engine work, I reuse the old one, and maybe throw a 1/16-1/10" washer under the cap where the pressure relief spring is to boost pressure a little. The drive gear failures on new oil pumps are supposedly due to inferior gear metal or heat treatment.

Doc could also set you up with a nice blueprinted or rebuilt pump.

There is some good over-view info. in this article:
http://www.slantsix.org/articles/oil-pu ... report.htm

There were 3 different impeller sizes offered on SL6 oil pumps.
As already noted, drive gear failure is the biggest issue we see with Slant oil pumps.
