I'm sure its been discussed already, but I can't find it. How much to take off of the head to raise the compression to about 9:1. I'm pretty sure the 170 in my 62 has a burned valve, so I plan on getting a spare head done before I pull the one that's on it. The car is my primary transportation so I cant pull the head that's on it and wait for it to be done. Any educated guesses would be appreciated.

You have the same head and bore size that the 225 has.

It's really imperative to CC the head, measure deck and work up the numbers.

Do the valves first. Cutting the valves after CC measurement will net a different number.

The number most often used is 0.0066" to decrease by 1cc. The further you go, the more reduction in head volume, but that's at very large compression ratios.
